It was imported to North American in the 1970’s and still live on as a pet rabbit breed. The goal was to profit from the fur, but the venture failed, but the rabbit breed lived on. It was made in 1900 by crossing the breeds Dutch, Himalayans, Champagne d’Argents and Havanas, in an attempt to get a rabbit that was similar to the Alaskan fox, and that is where it got it’s name. You might think that with that name, it would originate from Alaska, but it is in fact from Germany.
