It was made in 1900 by crossing the breeds Dutch, Himalayans, Champagne d’Argents and Havanas, in an attempt to get a rabbit that was similar to the Alaskan fox, and that is where it got it’s name. You might think that with that name, it would originate from Alaska, but it is in fact from Germany.
